THE NEW CORRIDORS OF ARMS, DRUGS AND DEATH

The Farc pressure a new armed strike in Nariño and Argelia since yesterday. The exit to the Pacific becomes Nariño on a dispute zone. The Cauca governor denounces the guerrilla for kidnaps of Paeces children.
Until three years ago the arrival of a long line of displaced people up to the head of any Colombian village was the announce of combats between illegal armed groups or an offensive of the military forces in a zone occupied by an irregular group. Now the “fortunately” that could exit because the confinement tactic is each time more frequent.

These zones have in common to be strategic corridors to mobilize troops of the illegal groups or for the illegal traffic of arms and drugs.
Last weekend the bullets and the silent threat of the anti-personal mines forced the displacement of 465 people from the path of Buenavista, El Dragal, La Arabia, La Reina, Buenos Aires, El Peru, El Cafe, and Mesones, from the municipality of Argelia, in the east of Antioquia. Carlos Mario Montoya, director of Dapard (administrative department for the attention and prevention of disasters), outline that other 300 people could arrive to this town.
As per the mayor of this village, Cornelio Manrique Narvaez, the peasant abandons their homes due the fear of the combats between the troops of the IV brigade and the front 47 of the Farc. The town in located in a strategic corridor for the front 47 of the Farc, because takes to the zone of Magdalena Medio, the Coffee zone, and the center of the country. These zones are disputed with the Magdalena Medio self-defenses.
The gravest thing is that the insurgents cropped with anti-personal mines the areas by which advance the army that since January are executing the operation Ejemplar. Notwithstanding, most of the victims have been civilians, among them is Orlando Gomez, a farmer with 26 years, who die when step into one of these tramps in the path El Tesoro. As per the commandant of the police Sijin, Colonel Oscar Naranjo, both groups were using the river to build camps with sophisticated structures for transport and stock of narcotics.
The NGO Codhes, alert due the confrontation that exists between the south block of the Farc and the pacific and central Bolivar blocks of the Auc, in the departments of Nariño and Putumayo .
In accordance with the report of this NGO, the municipalities of Ricaurte, Olaya Herrera, El Tambo, and El Charco (Nariño), where is concentrated the crops of illicit cultivations, are the ones that suffer to most due the combats between the army and the guerrilla. The towns of Tumaco, El Charco, y Bocas de Satinga, are the main corridors for the drug traffic because have an exit to the Pacific Ocean .
In Putumayo the pressure of the Auc is evident. On February 16 presumable members of this illegal group assassinate Jose Hurtado, a civic leader in the municipality of La Dorada that head a walk against the illegal armed groups. In February the Farc attacked with bomb cylinders an army patrol that moved on Puerto Asis: seven militaries and a civilian die.
During the first trimester of the 2005, denounce Codhes, 1219 people have been victim of displacement in Putumayo , and 8419 in Nariño.
Fear in Cauca
The Holy Week in 2001 was marked for the massacre of at least 24 natives in alto Naya, limit zone between the departments of Cauca and Valle. The zone used by the Farc and the Eln as a strategic path to move the combatants, suffer the attack of the Blocks Calima and Pacifico of the Auc.

The 17 th of April 2005 the Farc began an offensive against Toribio: 9 years old boy, five soldiers and two policemen die, the attacks went to Jambalo and around 2000 Paeces natives are in temporal lodges. The Farc demand that the police commands were moved from the towns.
Yesterday the Cauca Mayor, Juan Jose Chaux, denounce that around 20 young natives were recruited by the Farc on their retreat from Toribio and Jambalo. The Das director in this department, Hugo Ortiz, affirms that there are many families that have feared to denounce and they go to rescue their people”.
Other natives that suffer the war are the Wiwa and the Kankuamos that lives in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Martha and the Serrania de Perija. The war between the Farc and the Auc has cause the death of dozen of them. The risk of a ethnics massacre on this communities was warning by the high commissioner of the United Nations for the refugees (Acnur).
Choco: the worst crisis
The death of 119 people in the Bojaya church, in middle of the confrontations between the Farc and the block Elmer Cardenas Auc, on May 2 2002 , discovers a territorial dispute that has not cease.
The control of the Atrato River and the exit to the Uraba golf used by both groups to transport arms and rugs is only one of the causes of this fight.
