After singing many of his songs, historical event for such organism and for Colombia, the singer talked about the situation of the anti-personal mines in this country.
During an interview with a small group of journalists before to offer the concert in the headquarters of the European Parliament, in Brussels (Belgium), Juanes affirms that this act is “the greatest opportunity to use the music as an excuse, as a pretext to bring a message and be listened”.
“In this moment what is happening in Colombia with the mines is really grave and I do believe that most of the people do not know it, are not conscious”, said Juanes the first pop singer that sing on the Euro Chamber.
On a press meeting the president of this institution Joseph Borrel, highlight that the European Union use 20 million Euros to combat this flagellum that as per him do not affects only Colombia, but also Afghanistan, Cambodia or Croatia, here in Europe”.
The Spanish Euro depute Jose Ignacio Salafranca (PP), promoter of this act, announce that the European commission is going to make a symbolic give of 2.5 million Euros to contribute to the demine and the rehabilitation of the victims in Colombia.
Juanes have a long trajectory in the activism against the mines and insist what is needed in the country is the international aid.
In this respect, explains that the money received Colombia each year is minimal for what is happening, only 2,5 million Euros, with which only could be done few things in front to a tragedy as the dimensions of the one suffered in Colombia
“Each day two people step on a mine and we still living on an armed conflict and we need aid”, said Juanes that consider that “is not just that Colombia pay with deaths and suffering while the rest of the world still using the drugs, that is one of the main reasons that still the conflict in force”.
The singer, that think that as citizen is obligation is to collaborate in the possible solution of the problems in his country, and insist that we need aid so that Colombia is bleeding and there is a lot to do.
“I am Colombian citizen and I dream to have one day a country in peace”, add the winner of 12 Latin Grammy awards, and author of songs as Volverte a Ver, A Dios le pido, and Que Pasa.
One of his most popular songs and with which he began to be known when began his career alone, was Fijate Bien and is the team used for the campaign of the European Parliament against this kind of armament: “Europe and Latin American for a world without mines – see were you step”.
After the concert, Juanes has organized other next May 24 in Los Angeles (United States), that will meet Alejandro Sanz, Ana Gabriel, Carlos Vives, Juan Luis Guerra, Laura Pausini, Luis Fonsi and Ricardo Montaner to request a “Colombia without mines”.
“Is of real meaning to make a concert in the United States”, country that has not signed the agreement on Ottawa the prohibition of the anti-personal mines, explains Juanes.
The Hispanic community in the U.S. “is conscious of what is happen” and the entrance were sell only on two hours, due to what, in opinion of Juanes, the act will accomplish its objective: collect founds for the children victim of the mines.
