Thanks to the expertise and experience of the crew of the Black Hawk helicopter of the Combat Air Command No. 5, two mountaineers of German nationality were evacuated, one of them wounded, who had a head injury and several contusions in his upper extremities. Facing the difficult weather conditions and the terrain, at 14,000 feet, the two men were rescued in the Nevado del Tolima, in the Central Cordillera of the Andes. During the flight, the rescuers gave him immediate care, providing oxygen due to the height, keeping his vital signs stable until delivering it to the medical staff in Ibagué. In coordination with the National Personnel Recovery Center of the Colombian Air Force and through a Unified Command Post, the mission was carried out with the participation of members of the Fire Department, the Disaster Prevention and Attention Group and the Red Cross, who remained on land to provide medical assistance. The Air Force has its most experienced aircraft and crews, in order to develop this type of special operations to save the lives of those in danger.
